As George Osborne cheerfully sets about slashing welfare and public services for the very poorest, the Vodafone case gives lie to his claim that "we are all in this together".

This summer, the new ConDem government let Vodafone off a large portion of tax (the exact figure is not known, with Vodafone claiming reports of £6 billion are incorrect) after HMRC settled a longstanding tax dispute with the company.

The original Private Eye expose on the decision reports that one senior figure at the HMRC called it "an unbelievable cave in".

  1. Hey I'd like to come to this...but how large is the possibility of being arrested? Also, there's a leftwing bookfair on at the same time...how long will this demo last?

  2. How large is the possibility of being arrested? Very very small...

Length of demo? An hour...? Or as long as you wish to make it... bring along a book to read!
