Newcastle: unite the resistance!

This comes via Tyne and Wear Coalition of Resistance:

Newcastle rally for the alternative: Unite the resistance to cuts!

Wednesday 29 June, 7pm

Newcastle Arts Centre (the Black Swan), 67 Westgate Road, Newcastle
public meeting - ALL WELCOME

See the facebook event: http://on.fb.me/kLXX5d

If you are on facebook, please share the event page on your facebook wall and invite friends to attend.

Speakers: Kevin McHugh (PCS national executive), Dipu Ahad (Labour councillor, Elswick), Cris McCurley (solicitor campaigning to stop legal aid cuts), Alasdair Cameron (mental health worker and campaigner), Veronica Killen (regional convenor, UCU), Peter Campbell (Keep Our NHS Public) and Craig Singleton (Unite the Union organiser).

The protests, civil disobedience and strikes in Spain and Greece in recent weeks have shown how mass resistance can challenge austerity. Across Europe, the majority of people are being made to pay for a crisis they didn't create, while the bankers, speculators and super-rich tax cheats continue to increase their wealth.

This major public meeting is on 29 June, the eve of national strike action by 750,000 trade union members. PCS, NUT, ATL and UCU members are taking co-ordinated action with the message 'stop the cuts - hands off our pensions'.

We are bringing together leading trade unionists in the North East with other campaigners to talk about cuts, the alternatives, and the resistance.

Groups supporting the meeting include: Coalition of Resistance, Keep Our NHS Public, Northumberland Labour Representation Committee (LRC), North East Pensioners Association, South East Northumberland Trades Council, North East LRC, Gateshead Public Services Alliance, North East Youth, School and College Union (NEYSCU) and Durham's People's Bookshop (who will be running a bookstall for us!).
