From Robben Island to the world stage...

With the World Cup only 2 weeks away, here's news of a special commemorative football shirt to honour heroes of South Africa's anti-apartheid struggle. Via Philosophy Football:

The Makana FA was the extraordinary football association formed by prisoners on the notorious Robben Island. Imprisoned because of their opposition to Apartheid, playing football, organising their own league and cup competitions as the Makana FA, the game became a symbol and tool of the prisoners refusal to surrender their human dignity to the prison authorities.

Yet this FA never had their own strip, except they do now. Specially designed, complete with Makana FA badge, by Philosophy Football, the shirts will be presented to former prisoners on 17 June when over 100 England fans will join them on Robben Island.

This is limited edition and you can get yours from HERE.
