The fire of revolt burns in Newcastle

The weeks ahead are especially busy for activists in Tyneside. Here's a rundown of five major protests and public meetings between now and the end of June. 

Thursday 26 May, 12.30-3.30pm, Newcastle Civic Centre: protest at Nick Clegg's visit to Newcastle Civic Centre, where he is speaking at 3.30pm.
Protest supported by anti-fees and anti-cuts groups including Newcastle Free Education Network and Coalition of Resistance.

Saturday 28 May, midday at Grey's Monument: UK Uncut protest - make the bankers pay, not the NHS!
Initiated by Tyne and Wear Coalition of Resistance and part of UK Uncut's nationwide day of action for the NHS. Assemble at Monument then tour a number of city centre banks.

Saturday 4 June, midday, Grey's Monument: Slutwalk anti-sexism protest, opposing the blaming and shaming of victims of sexual violence and harrassment.
March culminates at Leazes Park, where the annual Green Festival is happening on 4-5 June.

Sunday 12 June, 6-9 pm, Newcastle Civic Centre: Gaza Awareness Conference with Lowkey, Yvonne Ridley, Jody McIntyre, Chi Onwurah MP and more, raising money for Ride to Gaza.
Supported by Palestine Solidarity Campaign and Stop the War Coalition. Tickets are £10 from ridetogaza@gmail.com

Wednesday 29 June, 7pm, Newcastle Arts Centre: Coalition of Resistance public meeting - Rally for the Alternative: unite the resistance to cuts!
Speakers include Veronica Killen (UCU), Alasdair Cameron (mental health campaigner), Julie Young (PCS) and Dipu Ahad (Labour councillor).
