Military families at Downing Street

I was amongst those who paid a visit to Downing Street on Monday evening, to support a number of military families handing in the petition calling for troops home from Afghanistan. The petition gathered tens of thousands of signatures and in the North East we've had lots of stalls where we've gathered signatures, expressing broad public opposition to the occupation.

Jeremy Corbyn MP and Stop the War officers accompanied Joan Humphries, Peter Brierly and other relatives of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, to submit the petition at Number 10. We had a candelit vigil outside - as the snow fell - and cheered the military families' representatives when they returned. A press conference had been held earlier to explain what we stand for and why our cause continues to be so important.
