Marxism and the Movement - Newcastle, 8 December
Marxism and the Movement
Organised by Newcastle Counterfire
Saturday 8 December, 12-5pm
Bar Loco, 22 Leazes Park Road, Newcastle, NE1 4PG
In the wake of the biggest crisis of capitalism since the 1930s, there is renewed interest in marxism. This event will be a space for discussing Marx's core ideas and considering their relevance for today's most important political concerns. How can Marx's ideas help us understand a world of war, crisis, massive inequality and ecological catastrophe?
With fresh movements of resistance - from Occupy to the Arab revolutions, from anti-austerity mass strikes to student protests - how can marxism help us in creating a better world?
Speakers include James Meadway, a regular contributor to the Counterfire website and senior economist at new economics foundation.
