Tweeting the revolution: Hugo Chavez joins the Twitterati

On Sunday Counterfire published an excellent article called The Internet - serving the revolution? This was swiftly followed by my own related commentary, in which I specifically flagged up the value of social networking for socialist activists.

Yesterday, Hugo Chavez joined Twitter. Coincidence? Well, the timing looks a bit suspect to me! I think we should be told: has the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution been reading Counterfire and Luna17?

If he joins Facebook too we can invite him to Monday's Counterforum, when we'll be discussing the Internet and socialist strategy. Just don't be disappointed if Hugo clicks 'Attending' then doesn't show...
